Paul Jovanis retired from Penn State in 2014 completing an academic career that included faculty appointments at University of California-Davis and Northwestern University. During his career he led numerous road safety research projects including studies of motor carrier crash risk as a function of driver hours of service, affect of geometric design elements on crash risk and development of methodological paradigms for road safety analysis using naturalistic driving study data.

Dr. Jovanis has served as a member and chair of several Transportation Research Board Committees, rising to both group and section chair with TRB. He has testified before state and federal legislative committees concerning road safety research. Paul derives the greatest satisfaction in observing the contributions of his graduate student advisees throughout road safety community.
